Blink 182 was one of the bands I listened to when I was growing up, so I’ll probably always have a soft spot for them. And I must admit, I just listened to some of the tracks from their new release ‘California’ on YouTube and I’m impressed. From a songwriting and quality perspective.
‘California’ is the bands first album to feature new guitar player and frontman Matt Skiba. Original guitarist Tom DeLonge left the band about a year ago for reasons that aren’t perfectly clear. According to Tom, he needs some time off to pursue his passion for exposing the truth about UFO’s. He’s actually written a book about it called Sekret Machines.
You can check some footage of Blink with their new frontman in the video below. Matt is seen playing his much-loved Fender Jaguar guitar through an Orange Rockerverb. His playing and vocals are perfectly on par and he fits the band like a glove. He describes learning Blink’s material as “labor-intensive, but fun work.”
Blink will be embarking on an American tour to promote their new album, kicking off on July the 21’st. There is also talk of a European and Australian tour, however this poses an issue with their drummer Travis Barker because he suffers from flight anxiety. Travis nearly lost his life in a plane crash in 2008, and is looking into the possibility of taking a boat from LA.
