According to George Harrison, The Beatles initially started dressing in suits and ties in an attempt to get more gigs and earn more money. The direction was inspired by Paul McCartney, who wanted the band to wear matching outfits in order to represent themselves as a team. The black-edged suit, which is now a recognized Beatles uniform, was based upon a suit seen on the catwalks in Paris, by designer Pierre Cardin. George Harrison offers us some fashion advice directly. “There is one thing I have learned and that is not to dress uncomfortably, in styles which hurt. Indian clothes are better.”
