Today marked the beginning of the Vai Academy camp for 2015. This 5 day long event is currently underway at the Arrabelle Vail Square in Colorado.
Eric Johnson and Sonny Landreth will be joining Steve Vai for special insight on playing the guitar. To add icing to cake, attendees get to jam every night with these great musicians.
Steve Vai admits that when he first began learning guitar, he turned a blind eye to the specifics of the instrument, such as wood types and truss rod adjustment. This has inspired the theme for 2015, which is “all about the guitar”. Attendees will learn all about neck dimensions, the sound of different wood types, how to set up their instrument and much more.
Larry DiMarzio will be present to help demystify pickups and why they sound the way they do. Sterling Ball from Ernie Ball will also make an appearance for some insight on how strings are wound.
